The SAE 4140 is a molybdenum chromium alloy steel specification that is commonly used in the oil and gas industry. It has a greater carbon content than 4130 which adds to its heat treatment capabilities and tensile strength.
The alloy steel round bars are tempered and hardened in the tensile range of 850-1000 Mpa. The product is available with enhanced machinability which increases speeds and/or feeds significantly while also improving tool life without affecting mechanical properties.
The cold-drawn annealed steel component in the round bars offer excellent hardenability, whereas chromium provides superior hardness infiltration. Molybdenum, on the other hand, lends consistency in terms of hardness and potency. Overall, these alloy cold-rolled round bars exhibit superior performance under heat treatment and is also easy to machine in its annealed state.
On client specification, we can further surface harden pre-hardened and tempered SAE 4140 by nitriding and induction or flame hardening.
